Update [01 Mar 2005|12:57pm]
Okay, I got extremely behind with posting to my Hospital Radio journal. I thought it was about time that I began to document my progress here as a regular thing again.

I am still presenting the show on a Thursday night 8.30 - 10pm, and enjoying the experience. The main focus remains the patient requests, but I've also introduced a new feature or to since my last update. I am now including the "question of the day" feature where I pose questions for thought for any of the patients who may be listening. It's fun as I can gather answers from people lurking around the office area to "get the ball rolling" as it were :-)

I've done away with the weekly brain teaser, so the features are presently as follows ...

Patient Requests
Mystery Lyric Quiz
Flashback Halfhour
Question Of The Day

I am planning on creating maybe one extra feature to include soon, but am just tossing about ideas at the moment.

Presenting an hour behind .. [01 Apr 2004|11:08pm]
Aaaargh, this programme went badly in my opinion. I made a few silly mistakes. The classic was reading the time off of the PC clock, not noticing it hadn't gone forward the hour for the Summer. I soon corrected myself afterwards, though. I'm sure in a way, the mistakes can bring a smile to peoples' faces though maybe :)

The previous week when Andy was presenting, he featured a clip of me singing on his programme - yikes! I still braved it to come back this week, though :) lol. I'm *not* including a snippet here - no way! :)

I presented the programme on my lonesome, did the usual features and everything went okay :)

Mixing - and not the social kind! [04 Mar 2004|11:06pm]
I quite enjoyed presenting this programme, and it went well overall. I did a couple of mixes using my sweeper collection which sounded good. I especially liked the way one sweeper mixed into 'Self Control' by Laura Brannigan, and the timing of a sweeper mixed over the beginning of 'Never Ending Story' by Limahl. I thought I had messed it up at first by pressing the button too late *but* it actually resulted in sounding more effective than if I *hadn't* have had a delayed reaction. These mixes took place during the Flashback Halfhour. I ended up doing this year of music twice on the trot, so I have made a note to myself to focus on later years for a while now, so it doesn't occur again. I love 80's music wa ~ ay too much I think :)

I decided to do something a little different tonight - as well as patient requests, I featured a request for my friend, Martin since he specifically asked for one :) I decided to play him something cheesy which I think he liked :) *Grin*. In case you're wondering how he came to get to listen to his request, I emailed him a copy over the computer.

I presented on HRM again tonight - no major news from the programme. I only managed to record half of this particular show, but it wasn't one of the better ones that I've done, so it wasn't a problem.

A double dose of Katy .. [22 Jan 2004|11:55pm]
I presented my longest stint on Hospital Radio so far, as I ended up covering the programme before mine, as well as presenting my own, so the patients got a double dose of me. It was a lot of fun and great experience presenting for three hours rather than the usual hour and a half. I found that the time passed by ever so quickly, and by the time my normal programme was due, I had really "warmed up" and got into presenting. I was presenting alone without Andy so it was strange having the studio to myself. I did several requests for the patients, which was brilliant, and included an extra feature in addition to the normal features that we have. I played 3 songs by a particular artist, and the patients had to guess who the songs were all by. The featured artist was Wet Wet Wet. I really enjoyed this particular programme :)

New jingles [08 Jan 2004|11:15pm]
I am so excited!! I now have my own jingle package for the show, that Andy has got sorted out. That is brilliant news, and I got to try them out on the programme today *smiles*. They sounded fantastic, and was really great to hear sweepers of my own name go out on there. You can hear a sample by going to this website, and clicking on "Andy Wood Presenter Package". Let me know what you think via the comments if you like, although I'm not sure how long the sample will be included on the site.

On the 20th December, we went to do some fundraising outside Asdas. It was a cold, wet day, but there was a good turn out, and we managed to raise some money. We had a laugh despite the poor weather conditions. Andy came along dressed as Poco again, and amused the shoppers no end.

Anyway, the first half an hour or so of today's programme didn't go too well as we had a technical hitch, but once we settled down and got into the swing of things again, it went well. I presented the usual features, and started using the computer a lot more to play the music. I found it easier that way really, particularly for the flashback halfhour. We got a correct answer to the mystery lyric quiz from one of our members :)

It was good to be back after the Christmas break :)

The programme went pretty well overall. Some of the links sounded good. Well, good for me anyway. It sounded a lot better than I thought it would, as I seemed to be on a downer and very critical of myself. I played some of the music off the computer playout system this week, rather than only using CD's, Vinyl or MD's. We had a few requests to do, which as always, was fun :)

The programme went reasonably well overall. It's not one of my favourites I've done, but it was still fun to do :)

I may play with the idea of introducing a new feature in the New Year :)

I was quite pleased with the programme this week, and it's a good job that it went reasonably well, as unknown to me at the time, it was taped for the Hospital Radio Awards again.

Well, tonight was the start of a new era. This was my first week at Hospital Radio without Brian being involved with the programme (as he's now working evenings). It is now the "Katy & Andy show". I received my door entry card *grins*. It is excellent news as basically I can now get in the door!! I hadn't needed to worry about gaining "door access" before now as Brian had his own door entry swipe card. Not that I have to "worry" as there's always people around to open the door when you need to get in ... well, usually *giggle*. I needed to leave Hospital Radio for a minute to visit the loo, and asked Andy if he'd mind mixing into my next song in case I wasn't back in time. Anyway, I *did* make it back, and rang the doorbell, but no one there had noticed the doorbell light flash up. I was then knocking on the door - no answer. I heard Andy mix my song and then go into the news. Yikes! I wondered if I'd be back by the end of the show ha ha. I was thinking "Oh come on, Andy, let me in". He did come to my rescue eventually though, in time for me to read my own weather. He had not come back to let me in the door sooner, as he thought I'd gone to the loos to powder my nose or something. Men, eh? :) Anyway, had to share that funny moment on here.

It was just good to able to receive my own card and feel even more a part of it. Oh, and I haven't been stuck out the door since :)

The programme itself went well :)

I was really pleased with this programme overall as we got some feedback. We got response to the lateral thinking quiz, which was excellent. Not only that, we did some requests as well, which was great :)

My new furry friend ... [18 Sep 2003|10:42pm]
The programme went well overall, and I feel there are a good mix of features now.

On Saturday the13th, I went along to the Hospital Fete and cuddled up to Poco the Coyote. Here's a piccie :)

A new quiz .. [04 Sep 2003|10:33pm]
I introduced a new feature for the programme this week - A mystery song lyric quiz :) It helped make up for the fact the show didn't go that well. I tend to find that if it goes wrong in the first 10 minutes, then it never really gets any better :(

Fancy new jingles ... [21 Aug 2003|11:25pm]
There was a change introduced to the programme this week as my friend, Andy has now joined Hospital Radio, and he assisted in presenting the information sheets for me :) He also has had a fantastic new Summer jingle package created by a contact, so I got to play those. They sound brilliant.

Thinking about new features ... [24 Jul 2003|11:23pm]
Not a lot to report really. Show went okay. Had a few requests :) I really need to introduce some new features, though.

We went to do some fund raising on the 26th July at the Maidstone River Festival. Sadly it poured with rain whilst we were there :(

Do we have listeners? [17 Jul 2003|11:26pm]
I really enjoyed doing my presenting bit this week :) It went pretty well, and was particularly pleased with how a couple of the links sounded towards the end of the programme. Maybe I had warmed up by then :) I often wonder how many people are listening at any one time. I know it isn't many, but even if just one patient listens and enjoys the features, or gains something from the Hospital information we provide, then it's worth it, isn't it? Brian presents the information section, and when he presents the show, I do the information reads.

We did some fundraising on the 12th, this time in Snodland. It was a gorgeous, hot day :)

Ooh, the pressure is on ... [03 Jul 2003|11:17pm]
This programme was recorded (as was the weeks output for the station) so that they can compile a selection of recordings of people to represent the station for the Hospital Radio awards. I guess this means someone may have listened to my effort. It'd be fascinating if my voice was used in the selection, but I am guessing not. Maybe next time when I've had more practice ..

I'm glad I found out they were recording me after I did my bit :)

We got response :) [19 Jun 2003|11:07pm]
The programme went well overall, and I tried to show more of my personality in my links. The best thing though, was receiving a phonecall from a patient who had a go at the brain teaser, and he got it correct. It was excellent to get some feedback, and know that at least one person enjoyed the brain teaser feature.

On the 7th, we went to do some fundraising at Mote Park for Hospital Radio. We helped out on the stall, which was good :)
